Best Dog Friendly Pubs - Further Afield
Once you've seen the sights of the city, why not travel outside our city limits and experience some more dog-friendly destinations. Just a few steps away from The Haymarket Hotel you'll find numerous ways to travel, either by bus, tram or train and they are all dog friendly (dogs on leads and at drivers discretion).

Step right off the promenade on Portobello Beach and into this local favourite. With views of the ocean, cosy dining areas with eclectic decor and doggy treats on offer it's a great place for you both to refuel after a walk on the beach.
On the doorstep to the Pentland Hills, with over sixty miles of walking paths and tracks, The Flotterstone Inn is filled with walkers and ramblers visiting from all over. Proudly family-run and serving locally sourced food and drinks it’s a great place to enjoy some Scottish hospitality after a walk in the hills.
Top Tip: Leave the cosy bar behind on a sunny day and sit outside in the lovely grassed garden courtyard. Staff provide treats for well-behaved pups.
Dogs are welcome in the covered courtyard of this beautifully restored pub which has been a favourite of past monarchs and poets. Today it’s one of Edinburgh's oldest surviving watering holes and is located close to some great walks near the Duddingston Loch or over Arthur’s Seat.
A modern, informal pub that really couldn't be more dog friendly, with a dog menu and selling interesting doggy treats to lucky furry friends, like lollipops. For humans, they have speciality cocktails, excellent eclectic food, daily specials and vegan options. The Guinness is also worth a note.
Top Tip: Follow the Water of Leith path for a lovely long, relatively flat walk, almost the whole way to The Bonnington Leith.
Located on the banks of the Union Canal this beautiful picturebook pub is worth the trip to Ratho. Follow the Union Canal to its termination at the beautiful Ratho Marina (2.5-3hrs walking from Haymarket Hotel) and reward yourself with a stop at The Bridge Inn. Popular with locals, featuring a log fire and dog treats behind the bar, everyone and their dog are welcome here. On sunny days enjoy the beer garden overlooking the canal.
