Best Dog Friendly Pubs - Our Neighbourhood Picks

Edinburgh is home to so many pampered pooches and no one wants to leave their best friend at home when we go out for a tipple.

Only a short walk from Haymarket Hotel are some wonderful dog-friendly options. Listed below are our top 5, for those lucky holiday pups visiting Edinburgh.

If however, you're both feeling energetic, you can try some options for a longer walk away but still close to home here.  Or our top picks further afield here.  Note that well-behaved dogs on leads can travel on buses and trams within the city if you both get too tired to walk back home again.

Teuchters

Teuchters meaning: Highlander; uncouth; countryfied person.

A classic highland pub-style venue with real fire, hand-pulled ales and fantastic relaxed Scottish pub food - think mugs of Cullen skink or haggis neeps and tatties. Boasting a wide range of Scottish beer and an extensive whiskey list, it's a cosy option for both you and your four-legged friend. It also happens to be located on the very picturesque William St.

Ryrie's

Ryrie's now boasts a snug dining area, outdoor seating and a private function room, and everchanging local and international fine beer on tap, cask ales, live music and tasty pub food.

Top Tip: They serve excellent fish and chips. There is also a small plate option to sample a variety of dishes.

The Fountain

A modern pub with lovely cocktails and sharing plates, focusing on fresh simple food. Located close to the Edinburgh Canal path so perfect for refreshments if you're planning to explore the canal.

The Hampton

This former Georgian townhouse has a homely relaxed bar, restaurant and a hidden lovely beer garden in the back.  A good place to watch sport, especially rugby as the Murrayfield stadium is a stone’s throw away.

The Bothy

Bothy meaning: A small hut or cottage, especially one used for housing farm labourers or for use as a mountain refuge.

Serving lazy lunches and cosy candlelit dinners The Bothy also boasts a lovely outdoor garden tent to relax al fresco, all year round.  With an extensive whisky list, gin range and cocktails to sample, the bothy provides something for all tastes.

Top Tip: Serving excellent traditional Sunday roast with all the trimmings.
